President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has departed on a trip to Kandoodhoo Island of Kolhumadulu Atoll this afternoon.

During this visit, the President is scheduled to inaugurate the food security programme, fertigation system and food exhibition on the island. He will also attend the official reception held to mark this year’s National Farmers’ Day and World Food Day. This is the first time that activities of this magnitude are being held to celebrate National Farmers’ Day, since President Solih declared the day in 2020.

October 15 is celebrated as National Farmers’ Day while October 16 is celebrated internationally as World Food Day. The primary goal of annually commemorating National Farmer's Day is to recognise farmers' efforts and contributions to ensuring food security. The day further aims to promote the farming vocation while also connecting the day to World Food Day, allowing farmers to showcase their products and plan events in conjunction with the days.

The President will conclude the trip and return to Malé City on Saturday.
