Vice President Faisal Naseem on Saturday met with the members of the island council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of Dhuvaafaru Island in the Raa Atoll. He was on Dhuvaafaru Island as part of his ongoing six-island tour of the atoll.

At the meeting, the council members shared with the Vice President the most pertinent needs of the community, including challenges facing the education and healthcare sectors, especially human resources development. They noted that the fishing community faced difficulties acquiring ice and highlighted the need for banking services. The WDC members spoke about the need for training funeral staff.

Speaking at the meeting, the Vice President reiterated the administration’s commitment to working closely with island communities and ensuring the administration’s decisions reflect the needs of the communities. He also assured the administration’s commitment to completing developmental projects, despite their size. He also stated that the administration would work towards finding amicable solutions to the issues raised at the meeting.

Following the meeting, the Vice President met with the management and staff of public offices and institutions on the island. Some topics discussed at the meeting included the need for an outdoor library; vocational education and training programmes; budget constraints, and staff and resource shortages facing the Family and Children’s Service Centre. They also noted the need to improve policing services.

Later, the Vice President visited Dhuvaafaru Health Centre, where he met with staff and inquired about its operations.
