Honorable Ministers, Ambassador, Your Excellencies, Distinguished guests;
Ladies and Gentlemen;
As salaam Alaikum and a very good afternoon.
First of all I would like to thank you for inviting me to this function. From the time I worked in the Human rights commission, especially when I worked with Rashda. We have always understood and recognized the importance of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Society. The international federation of Red Cross, which began with a very humble beginning in Switzerland has changed lives, and helped people to change their destiny. I believe International Federation of Red Cross, and Red Crescent have given people hope, and made their dreams come true. Especially in the case of people who are displaced either through war or natural disasters.
They have given support to various countries in the world, irrespective of ethnic, religious and nationality they were all supported by the Red Cross and Red Crescent. It’s a remarkable achievement.
Also, I acknowledge the International Red Cross and Red Crescents assistance after the Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004 which brought unprecedented devastation to the countries of the region including the Maldives.
Today’s event marks a very important decision made by the Red Crescent. “Reducing the risk and promoting security for forced migrants” is a very important issue. Very often in certain countries, I believe including my own country, the treatment of foreign workers is a serious concern. It is an issue that must be dealt with.
Today at the launching of World Disaster Report 2012 function, I would also like to compliment the work done by Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations, especially I would like to compliment the Red Crescent Society of Maldives. They have been very active and they are very active, although they have plenty of difficulties and difficult challenges.
Undoubtedly Mr Shafeeg and Rashda are two very strong personalities. Fortunately I have experienced the work of Rashda and I know once something is decided by her, the result is it’s always done. And Mr Shafeeg is a very prominent businessman who dedicated part of his life for this wonderful charity work.
Your trainings will show an impact on the development of the Standard of Operational Procedures, which can be utilized by all stake holders. This will eventually support the national societies with Humanitarian activities.
Finally I must say that I am extremely glad to know that the Maldivian Red Crescent, which was formed on 16 August 2009, has been working steadily towards establishing itself as a well-functioning national society both locally and internationally through efficient service delivery with integrated institutional developments.
I would like to conclude by wishing all the success for the organization the Red Crescent Maldives and the International Federation of Red Cross Society.
May the practice of humanity last forever. May God bless Maldives.
