President Mohamed Nasheed has visited Bilehdhoo of Faafu Atoll today.

 
Meeting the people of Bilehdhoo, the President underlined the government´s position on providing social security for the people as a precondition for the development of the nation.
 
President Nasheed said national progress was not possible without an institutionalized social security programme, and the aim of the social protection programme initiated by his administration was fostering national development.
 
Speaking on the success of the government´s social security programme, the President noted that 143 residents from Bilehdhoo were provided health insurance by Madhana social health insurance programme.
 
Further, he said 34 Bilehdhoo residents received old age pension given to people above the age of 65, while 26 people from the island received social security benefits given to single parents and people with special needs.
 
In addition, sharing the programmes allocated for the development of the island, the President revealed that a telemedicine system would be established in the island this year and construction of the island´s harbour was included in this year´s budget.
