President Mohamed Nasheed has said all the Maldivians were with the Egyptian people and pledged his support for the democratic movement in Egypt.

The President pledged support for the Egypt’s democratic movement, highlighting struggles for democracy in the Muslim world, especially Egypt and Tunisia, in his address to the people of Hulhudheli yesterday.

He said, no other country in the Muslim world granted more freedom to people, including freedom of expression, assembly and peaceful political activism than in the Maldives.

President Nasheed reiterated that there was no other country in the global Muslim community aside the Maldives that granted full freedom to Islamic scholars to give their good religious advice and provide counsel.

He stressed that the Islamic community could not uphold its honour and dignity unless its scholars had full freedom.

The President visited Hulhudheli of Faafu Atoll as part of his tour to some islands of Faafu and Dhaalu Atoll to inform the people on the programmes included in this year’s budget for the development of the atolls.

The development of Hulhudheli harbour would commence this year, the President revealed, outlining the programmes planned for the island.
