President Mohamed Nasheed said the many unwarranted criticisms, and unfounded allegation against his administration would not deter him from his goal and his resolve to develop this country.
Speaking in Feeali of Faafu Atoll this evening, President Nasheed said the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had the people who found courage from one another to transcend fear in its successful struggle for freedom and democracy in this country.
Therefore, he said, there could not be much that could match the fear and peril it had went through in its struggle for democracy in this country.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the government’s programmes for the development of this country, despite the many unjustifiable criticisms mounted against him by the opposition.
President Nasheed visited Feeali as part of his tour to some islands of Faafu and Dhaalu Atoll, to inform the people on the programmes in this year’s budget for the development of these atolls.
Reiterating the importance of providing social protection for national development, the President highlighted the government’s achievement in establishing a fully fledged social protection system.
In addition, the President also noted the infrastructure development programmes his administration has completed over the past two years.
He said, over the past two years, the government has completed establishing sewerage systems in 17 islands, compared to 4 islands that had sewerage systems when this administration came to office. He also said this government has also completed laying water grids in a total of 7 islands over the past two years.
Further, he said this government, over the past two years has completed harbour construction in 43 islands, whereas, previous government had pledged to construct harbours in 60 islands without completing any paperwork or funding allocated to them.
The President revealed that the funding was included in this year’s budget to develop Feeali’s harbour.
