Reiterating that the real development of the country was the development of human resources, President Nasheed has said the ultimate objective of all the government’s policies were the development of human resources.

 
In his address to people of Kudahuvadhoo of Dhaalu Atoll, the President said the government’s measure of development was not the amount of concrete buildings and other infrastructure it was able to build. Rather, he said, the government’s aim was improving people’s quality of life.
 
The President stated that safeguarding people’s liberties, their freedom of expression, and peaceful political activism were prerequisites of achieving progress and improving quality of life. However the President underscored that stating these rights and freedoms did not equal to their realization, stating these rights and freedoms were also ensured by the previous Constitution to the extent they were guaranteed in the current Constitution.
 
Speaking in this regard, the President noted that formation of political parties was the most important steps that ensured the realization of the freedoms and rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
 
Furthermore, the President said the aim of providing social security and quality education was also improving living standards.
 
Discussing the achievements in providing social protection to the people, the President said 450 people from were insured by Madhana health insurance programme, while 122 people over 65 years of age are enlisted for the old age pension.
 

In his address to the people of Kudahuvadhoo, the President said the island’s harbor construction would begin this year and fishing supplies center would be built on the island this year.
