Addressing the people of Meedhoo, Dhaalu Atoll, President Nasheed stated that the government and the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) aimed to build a modern nation.

 
 Reiterating that the intended outcome of the government’s electoral pledges was a modern nation in the Maldives, he said, the government’s policies were devised to deliver these pledges.
 
Continuing in this regard he expressed his confidence of achieving the government’s goal of creating a developed and a modern nation after its policies were fully implemented.
 
Underscoring that the government had a vision for the development of Meedhoo, and Meedhoo was recognized as one of the strongest economies in the region.
 
Outlining the government’s programmes for Meedhoo, he revealed that construction of the island’s harbour would begin this year. In addition, he stated that telemedicine service will be established in Meedhoo this year.
 
Furthermore, highlighting the achievements of the government in providing social protection for the people, the President said 188 residents of Meedhoo were insured by Madhana health insurance scheme and 47 people continued to received old age pension.
 
After concluding his visit to Meedhoo, the President also visited and met the people of Vaanee of Dhaalu Atoll.
 

He is visiting the atolls to inform the people on the programs included in this year’s budget for the development of the atolls.
