The Cabinet has today decided to make obtaining a Maldivian Work Visa before arrival in the Maldives mandatory for all Bangladeshi workers to be employed in the Maldives.
The Cabinet decided to make arrangements for the High Commission of the Maldives in Dhaka, Bangladesh to issue work visa to Bangladeshi workers bound for the Maldives. It was also decided that Bangladeshis who apply for Work Visa at the Maldivian High Commission in Bangladesh should be approved by relevant Bangladeshi authorities.
The Ministry of Human Resources, Youth and Sports and the Department of Immigration and Emigration are to collaborate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work out the details of the arrangement.
Further, deliberating on the increasing number of illegal expatriate workers in the Maldives, the Cabinet also decided to conduct another programme to find and send illegal workers in the Maldives back to their respective countries.
In addition, at today’s meeting, the Cabinet decided to host the Regional Conference on Deepening and Sustaining Democracy in Asia in the Maldives next year.
The Cabinet assigned Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed to lead and oversee the preparations to hold the conference in the Maldives in March 2012.
