President Mohamed Nasheed has appointed a high-level taskforce to coordinate the programme to control the dengue fever outbreak in the country.

Members of the taskforce are as follows:

1. Dr Aminath Jameel, Minister of Health and Family
2. Mr Hassan Afeef, Minister of Home Affairs
3. Ms Shifa Mohamed, Minister of Education
4. Mr Ahmed Inaz, Minister of Finance and Treasury
5. Mr Thalhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaanu, Minister of Defence and National Security
6. Mr Sarangu Adam Manik, Mayor of Male’
7. Mr Ibrahim Mohamed Rasheed, Undersecretary of the President’s Office

Functions of the taskforce include increasing public awareness on dengue fever through media, and taking immediate measures to prevent the spread of the fever with the involvement of all relevant government authorities.

The taskforce will also take special measures to prevent children, as they are more susceptible to the virus and to maintain general hygiene.

The taskforce will work under the direct supervision of the President.
