After discussing the current challenges and improvements required in the country’s health sector, the Cabinet has today decided to upgrade Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital and Addu City Regional Hospital to the standard of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé.

Deliberating on the matter, the Cabinet selected a steering committee of Cabinet ministers to study the shortcomings of the health sector and recommend necessary measures to improve health services in the country.

At today’s Cabinet meeting, members also discussed the situation of dengue outbreak in the country, and the efforts to control the spread of the fever.

In addition, at the meeting, the Cabinet decided to establish the “Office for Countering Terrorism” as a government agency under the Ministry of Defence and National Security.

Office for Countering Terrorism, to be established under power vested in the President by the Article 106 of the Constitution, will be mandated to protect the country from threats of terrorism.
